CHARITY GAMES MAY 27TH/MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS

It is with a heavy heart that I recall the week before the 2022 Dynasty Flag Football season. On Sunday, April 23rd, I received word that Brian Chmura, my best friend since middle school, had passed away after a long battle with mental illness. During the 18 months preceding his passing his family and closest friends, along with mental health care professionals, were unable to properly get him the help and treatment he needed. We had all been completely unaware of the extent of his condition and were shocked at the events leading up to and including the end of his life.

Our charity games this year on May 27th are in honor of Brian and we want them to underscore the need for mental health awareness in today's world. If your life has ever been impacted by mental illness, perhaps you understand how pervasive and misunderstood it is. Please join us to raise awareness and encourage everyone to seek help and speak out if they or someone they care about is suffering from any form of mental illness. We have created a fundraising page with the National Alliance on Mental Illness.

HOW TO DONATE & PARTICIPATE IN OUR FUNDRAISER AND CHARITY GAMES:

1. Go to https://donate.nami.org/pullformentalhealthawareness

2. Please contribute a suggested donation of $10-20. Our goal is $1000. We also encourage you to share anything you are comfortable with that may increase awareness for others of mental health issues and treatment options.

3. EMAIL dynastyflagholliston@gmail.com ASAP that your son or daughter would like to play on May 27th and include their age group. Game times will be posted as soon as we reach a minimum of 10 players per age group. Let us know if you can COACH/VOLUNTEER.

VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED to coach and possibly watch the sidelines for players being in/out of bounds if referees are in short supply. We will also have some games/activities on Field 2 for adults and volunteers are needed to manage a couple stations and take some notes (like how far Brian Mandeville can throw a football. Answer: not as far as his son).

Thank you to everyone for such a great season thus far and to the many of you we will see on Saturday, May 27th for your support of a truly worthy cause.
